Dr. Christine Martey-Ochola

CHEMIST, BIO-CHEMIST & CO-FOUNDER OF NUELE HAIR

Dr. Christine Martey‐Ochola is cofounder of Nuelehair LLC. She always had a desire to do chemistry and run a business, and has a deep love for science, research, STEM engagement, economic empowerment, agriculture, and herbal medicine.

It is these factors that collectively drove her to cofound Nuelehair with her friend Anne Cheatham, as they quested to find clean and healthy solutions for women who were seeking organic and natural hair care products that enhance hair health and manageability.

Christine obtained a doctorate in Chemistry from Lehigh University, a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from East Stroudsburg University, and a diploma in Food Science and Technology from Kenya Polytechnic University in Nairobi, Kenya.  She has had a successful academic career at Villanova and Shippensburg Universities, where she taught Chemistry and Biochemistry for more than ten years and did research on lung cancer, as well as studied natural plant extracts and small molecule effects on cancer cells.

Christine caught the entrepreneurship bug when she was a young girl helping her grandmother pick and sell cotton in Western Kenya, observe her great-grandmother make and treat sick people with herbal medications, and observe business in action at her mother’s hair dressing salons in Nairobi. She started her first venture selling organic mango and orange juice in Nairobi while in college.  She is the founder of Avo Global Ltd, a Pennsylvania based management consulting firm with specific expertise in environmental engineering, higher education consulting, agribusiness, and public health delivery in Africa. Christine also consults in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields for K‐12 institutions, and was selected as a 2019 Pennsylvania STEM Ambassador.
